Packers Waive Samp; Sign Defensive Tackle

The Green Bay Packers announced that they had released Green Bay native Chris Samp and signed defensive tackle Quintene (pronounced QUIN-ten) Newhouse.

Newhouse played at Northwestern (La.) State--same as Craig Nall. I guess it's just who you know in this business.

In all seriousness, the 6-1, 313 pound Newhouse played in 42 games registering 155 tackles (67 solo), 29 stops for loss, 7 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Terrence Murphy Signs a 5-year Contract

Wide receiver Terrence Murphy's contract reportedly includes a 1.5 million dollar signing bonus. It's good to see the kid signed his deal in time for the full-squad workouts. This will help with his development, which was off to a good start already.

This group, along with running back, represents our deepest and most talented position on the team and Terrence Murphy offers what could potentially be a huge addition to that talent level. The battle between Murphy and Antonio Chapman for the number four receiver should be an interesting one. Last year, Chapman demonstrated the work ethic that allowed him to make the most of his opportunities while earning Brett Favre's trust (not an easy thing to do as an undersized, fourth-receiver). Murphy, on the other hand, offers better physical attributes than Chapman. Plus, the rookie showed great maturity in his approach to learning his profession in the minicamps and OTA's.

Nick Collins Agrees To Five-Year Deal

Nick Collins, one of the Packers' two second round picks this year, agreed to terms on a five-year contract this evening, shortly before the Packers were to hold their first full-squad meeting of training camp.

Collins left Orlando, Florida immediately upon agreeing to the deal.

The Packers still have two draft picks unsigned, first round pick, Aaron Rodgers and second round pick, Terrence Murphy.

Javon Walker Will Report To Camp

Javon Walker, under intense pressure from the Packer Podcast and blog (not affiliated with the Green Bay Packers or the NFL), announced that he'll report to training camp.

Tom Silverstein of the upstart Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that Walker, when asked if he was going to report to camp said, "Let them know I'm coming in."

Packers Sign Underwood and Poppinga

As rookies and first-year players reported to camp Monday, the Packers announced that they had signed safety Marviel Underwood and linebacker Brady Poppinga to contracts. Of the Packers' 11 draft picks, 8 are uner contract.

No word on how long any of the players will actually honor the contracts they signed.

Why can't we get Cletidus Hunt to hold out?

Could somebody please slip Boo-Hoo Drew's phone number to our 3-time Mr. Lackluster Performance? Perhaps Boo-Hoo Drew could convince Cletidus Hunt that he couldn't"fathom" allowing someone so lackluster as him to play for such a pittance.

If we can't add better players, perhaps we could find some creative ways to get better by subtraction.

Boo-Hoo Drew

Somebody get Drew and his poor millionaires a box of Kleenex. Fast.

Boo-Hoo Drew didn't really just say that he wouldn't "stand for" Javon Walker risking his life without getting a decent wage, did he? Puuhhh-leeease! Boo-Hoo, don't waste our time with your garbage rhetoric. His garbage quote is four paragraphs from the bottom of this Packer Plus article. Cover your nose first.

Who does Boo-Hoo think he is by feeding the fans bunk like that? Is he some kind of NFL Power Broker now that he's lubricated the trade chassis of a few teams? It's time for NFL GM's to strip Boo-Hoo Drew of his perceived power by refusing to deal with ANY of his grossly underpaid clients (the holdouts). Unfortunately, Boo-Hoo Drew knows that all it takes is two weak GM's to strike a deal for one of his Prima donnas and make himself look like the Deal Maker.

Does Boo-Hoo Drew even care about the deal being good for his client (of which he has over 90 of, as he often reminds us)? Look at Boo-Hoo's recent track record. He orchestrated the Champ Bailey trade when his client, Clinton Portis, became unhappy with the contract he had signed. How did things work out for Boo-Hoo Drew's client? Portis' stats declined DRAMATICALLY in every significant statistical category (yards, yards per attempt, touchdowns) except attempts. Oh, Clinton did manage to fumble more often though (from 3 in 2003 to 5 in 2004). Plus, he's playing for the mediocre Redskins. But hey, he's making a lot more money for all that mediocrity. Attaboy, Drew.

Mike McKenzie is still crying about his contract in New Orleans and may not report to camp next week when the Aints open camp. What a shock! Poor guy. Having to make ends meet on mere hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. His numbers were pretty comparable in 2004 to what they had been in previous years (decent, but not spectacular) but he's playing for the AINTS. Welcome to football purgatory, Mike. Here's your big-screen TV, so you can catch ALL the post-season action. Good work, Boo-Hoo.

Ted Thompson is absolutely correct in telling Javon and Boo-Hoo to forget about a New Deal. We haven't even started this season and I'm fully convinced that Ted Thompson is the right man to be in charge of the Green Bay Packers. I doubt that he can fix us this year, but in a couple years--look out.

Tightlipped Ted

Ted Thompson has yet to smile, let alone give actual insight as to what his plans are for the organization. Boy, it really stinks that the local media has to scrape and scrimp to make storylines meet. I love it.

Brett Favre Makes Too Many Mistakes

That's right. You read it here fff--well, not first, or second for that matter. But hey, you read it here. Brett Favre makes too many mistakes for the Packers to win the big one. And he's been doing it for some time now. They say the elderly revert back to their childhood. Well, Brett Favre has reverted back to his first few years in the league. All we need now is for him to complete a pass to himself again.

That said...he is our best chance to have anything to cheer about this season. Don't get me wrong, I'm as big of a Brett Favre fan as anyone, but I wish he didn't force it in there as often.

Every Rose-nhaus Client Has It's Thorn

Grady Jackson, make up your mind. Are you in or out?

Javon Walker, get a clue. You've had ONE great year. One.

Meanwhile, Ahman Green reports to work every day and doesn't say a word.
