Lambeau Leaps

My grades on the Packer's Lambeau Leaps.

Tracy White gets a Cow Chip. Worst. Leap. Ever. Like a weak handshake, he just kind of flopped in there.

Barnett gets a Blue Chip. His Leap was classic, as he used his hands to turn himself as he went in. That enabled him to get out when he wanted to get out.

James Jones gets a Red Chip. His first Leap looked like he was the rookie that he is. Face First. No Exit Strategy. Rookie. He benefited from watching Barnett, though. On his second Leap he had a good jump and turn. He rates at 1 Cow Chip and 1 Blue Chip. Average it out, he learned and got better, not bad.

Carslyle Holiday looked like a rookie on his Leap. Just Awful. Heck, he barely made it into the stands. A big WR is supposed to get up better than that. Face first, can't get out...Cow Chip Leap.

Jackson--no grade. No Leap.
He just ran back to the sideline. Kids today--no respect for tradition.

I'm curious...

Was P. Thompson's 2nd dumb INT a result of his own inexperience or a mistake by Zach Alcorn? It looks like McCarthy is addressing Thompson so I tend to think it's on him.

Ingle Martin benefited from not playing tonight. I wonder if Paul Thompson was told to stay in the pocket tonight...

Blackmon strips the ball

Ruled down, but I don't know how. His knee wasn't even close to being down. We'll see if they overturn it. Good thing they can look past the whistle because it clearly killed it.

Paul Thompson throws it to two Seahawks

That was bad. I might have been the closest "Packer" on the play.

Charlie Peprah INT returns it to the 2

Railbird Central is going to interview Charlie soon. They might just talk about the INT.

Paul Thompson walks on the field and already looks better than Ingle Martin

Enough said about the 3rd QB. He's it.

We just missed Jarret Bush's third incredible celebration

Perhaps, instead of practicing his dance, J.Bush could catch some balls.

Tramon Williams muffs a punt

and turns it over. That's not good for him.

Seattle announcers keep clamoring for Packer running plays

Punks. Both of them.
Give it up.
This is Aaron Rodgers. We don't need to know if he can hand off. I can hand off. We need to know if he is the man. To do that, we need to know what he is like in the passing game.

Plain and simple.

Rodgers Looks Favreian?

Ok. First Rodgers does the little flip to Holliday (which should've been caught). Then Rodgers slides to the side a little to buy more time and hits a wide-open Carlyle Holiday on a similar pattern that Jones ran earlier.

Who cares who the future Packers' President will be?

The Company is in good hands with Rodgers waiting in the wings.

Rodgers

Rodgers makes a perfect throw to Korey Hall out of the backfield. It was a tough angle and it allowed him to catch it in stride and keep his momentum.

Corey White gets the 1st down with a tough 2nd effort.

Tramon Williams had a nice PR

Who Knew?

He we a little too horizontal but that was probably dictated by the coverage....

He also got a great block from someone, I'll get the #.

I forgot to mention 3 holding penalties on a KR

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen 3 holding penalties on the same team on the same play. Crazy.

Jarret Bush celebrates the first two interceptions in NFL history (apparently)

Man,

I wonder what Jarrett Bush will do if he ever gets in the end zone. Fireworks?

Oh, well. The kid made a great break on the ball. The first one was just thrown to him.

Atari Bigby, better blitzer than coverer (is that a word?)

Atari Bigby is practicing his Lambeau Leap on the blitz. He gets another sack, but he really needs to stop jumping the QB. Experienced QB's will simply move around him.

They'll make it look like easy.

They're aggressive plays, but he'll be completely out of the play if the QB doesn't panic like the Seattle QB's have tonight.

He's still learning...

Rodgers held the ball too long for the blitz. Until then he had gotten it out quick. He needs better recognition there.

It's a good thing we have 2 kickers

Last week, I thought it was a good thing we had two punters.

This week, if we didn't have two kickers, we would have to go to our emergency kicker just to give the first kicker a rest.

An interception by Bush gives the Pack the ball at the 23.

Jason Spitz is the new center.

Coston kind of fanned on his guy on a 3 yd pass to Jones.

Rodgers held the ball too long for the blitz. Until then he had gotten it out quick. He needs better recognition there.

On defense, lets watch the safeties...

This can be kind of tough though b/c they are mostly out of view of the camera once the play starts.

Ummm. Ok. That was a great play by Bigby. He just devoured the QB, and forced a fumble on the sack. Tracy White runs it all the way back 35 yards for a very weak Lambeau Leap. He attempted to turn too soon and didn't use his hands to catch himself and turn. This is where you can really tell who scores a lot.

Crosby kicks it to the 5, it's returned to the 29

I don't know if there was no hangtime on the kick or if we had 10 Defensive Tackles on kick coverage but there wasn't any Packer in sight when the returner was at the 13. Not a good sign either way.

Clowney does his best Antonio Chapman impersonation for an 18 yard return

Clifton is out--Coston is at LT. McCarthy has 91 already pressed on his cell phone.

The announcer just said they are really raving about Junius Coston in camp. I guess I missed all that.

Jackson looks strong running the ball. We'll keep an eye on him, Rodgers, and the new camp sensation, Junius Coston (instead of each play).

Junius Coston didn't touch a soul on his first running play, a 2 yd gain by Jackson.

Ryan Powdrell is injured and helped off with an ankle.

Rodgers made a nice decision to go to Franks for a short pickup with an empty backfield. He got the ball out quick just like he's supposed to.

Brandon Jackson ran to the left. Coston controlled his guy who wasn't a factor in the tackle.

Packers challenge on deep sideline pass by Rodgers to James Jones. Looks like he had both feet down and possession. Coston moved his feet well and handled his guy who was split real wide--I mean Jim Bates wide. not bad, but I don't think he's blocking anyone special.

Challenge upheld. Great catch by Jones. Good throw by Rodgers. He put it up there where only the big WR was going to get it.

Coston blocked well on a 6 yd gain away from him. I'm not seeing any cut blocking on the back side.

Rodgers gets the ball out quick on a slant to Martin.

Rodgers hits Jones in the end zone. TOUCHDOWN PACKERS!!!

After the 7yd TD reception, James Jones demonstrated what a quick learner he is, because he did the Leap and Turn so he could get outta that mess of fans (no offense).

Rodgers zipped it in there low and away from the defense.

Our Extra Point Kicker, Dave Rayner, nails it.

31-10 Pack

Jones PR, has to let the punt bounce. Out at Pack 42

Rodgers can't handle fast and high snap from Wells--recovered by

12 yd swing pass.

Mo Morris rusn it in for a TD.

Pack up 24-10. About 9:40 left in 2Q.

Rayner sends the KO a yard deep

Hall makes the stop and will make the team.

Seattle ball on their 20.

Morris takes it 19 yds. The FB who got worked by Hawk on his sack, got a little bit of revenge as he had a nice block against Hawk on the run. Holding on the play--it's coming back.

Spencer was holding Harrell.

Barnett deflects pass over the deep middle.

Pass to Branch--Walker shoves him out after 6.

DC Sanders brings 6, Bigby pressures Wallace who throws it OOB.

Pack has 4 Drives, 22 Plays, 112 yards

Crosby to the 5. Korey corrals the KR at the 21.

Manuel still playing. makes the tackle in coverage.

KGB misses a tackle on a 5 yd run.

Seattle picks up 1st up the middle for 2.

-----

1st down inc.

Morris picks up 2. Jenkins forced him wide, Williams brought him down.

3rd and 8

KGB sack and FF. Barnett brings it back! TOUCHDOWN PACKERS!!!

Veteran Lambeau Leap as Barnett made the wise turnaround as he went in to make getting out easier. Reminds me a little of Clark Griswald (park clear in the back of the Wally World parking lot so "It's easier to get out at closing time.").

Rayner nails the PAT. Pack leads 24-3.

Both Return jobs are Blackman's. He returned the Punt 16 yds

Driver Drop on 1st down.

Jackson picks up a 1st on the screen. He showed good patience letting Wells and Colledge get out in front and then shot through the gap.

Favre to Driver for 22 to the 18. That was a laser.

Jackson run up the middle out of the 'gun. No gain. Colledge kicked out. Donald Lee looked like he should have been doing something.

end of the Q

2nd and 8
Favre in the gun. Seattle brings 6, Favre makes a perfect touch pass to Jones on the crossing route who outraces Trufount to the end zone! Touchdown, Packers!!!

Nice Lambeau Leap (for a rookie).

Rayner tacks on the PAT

17-3 Packers.

Rayner sends the KO 6 yds into the EZ

Kampman, Cole, Williams, and Jenkins on the line.

Stuffed the run on 1st down.

Hawk SACKS Wallace for a loss of 5. We brought 5 as Jenkins dropped into zone coverage.

He just tossed the FB (43) out of the way!!

Jenkins shoots through for a loss of 3.

Blackmon wow!! 83 yd. KO Return

Slips tackles, sidesteps, turns on the speed and gets horsecallered at the Seattle 15.

PF takes it inside the 8.

Blocks 97, 78, and Jason Hunter.

Clowney's block was reluctant but good enough.

Hall started game at FB

Jackson to the 1 behind Franks Spitz and Tauch again.

Jackson gets it across behind Wells and Colledge and Spitz.

A red zone running game?

Crosby boots the PAT

1Q 7:22 left. Pack 3-0

Crosby kicks a yard deep in the end zone and Jason Hunter nails the KR at the 19.

1st-- Poppinga trips up Alexander for 2.

2nd--Jenkins tackles Alexander for -2

3rd--Wallace gets out and complete to Nate Burleson; Collins misses tackle knocked off by Bennett all the way to the Pack 30.

------

Dropped pass

Alexander for 3 yds--piled up

Harris makes a diving deflection.

46 yd try by Brown--Nails it.

3-3. 4:22 left.

Packers v. Seahawks Preseason Game 2

David Clowney (11) and Shaun Bodiford back to return. 26 yards straight up the gut.

Quick hit to Driver who danced too much for a pick up of 4 yards.

7 step drop for Favre behind Driver.

Announcers dont even seem to know there's a penalty.

Jackson for 7 yd run. Nice block from College.

Favre for Jones incomplete. Jones messed up his route and he's hearing about it.

Nice punt from ryan. Why do I feel like I'll be saying that a bunch?

Pickett deflects 1st down pass.

S. Alexander drops 2nd down pass--had Burnett beat.

Jenkins sacks S. wallace.

27 gets stuck on pr but holds on.

-------

PI on Seattle's Trufant (driver slant)

Franks reaches up and catches a Favre fastball for 3 yds

Jackson for 5. Spitz, Taucher and Franks good blocks

Favre connects with Franks for 11 low and away.

Jackson for 3. Bubba's man mad the tackle.

Franks sits down for another 8 yd gain--1st down.

Jackson for 9. Spitz, Franks and Tauch again

2nd and 1. Favre inc. to Jennings. Tauch battled but gave up a pressure and Favre almost had it knocked out of his hand.

Jackson over the left side picks up the 1st on 3rd and 1. Spitz Wells and College.

--------

Jackson cuts the quck pitch up for 2.

Jackson picks up blitz but Colledge gives up tip

Favre looks for Lee on the seam--forced inc. almost INT.

Crosby squeeks the 37 yd FG from left hash. It was perfectly straight. When he hit it I thought it would hook left but thankfully it didn't.

3-0 Pack. 12-47-4:54.

OTA's End Without Woodson

Well, the minicamps and OTA's are over and we still don't know where Charles Woodson is. You would think that the guy could pencil in some workouts for an organization that just gave him $10 million.

Prima Donna. Still livin' off that Heisman.

Anyhow, I'll start blogging more regularly now that we have some information about the players and new coaching staff (which, for the most part, I like).

By the way, I've noticed that one theme coming from the new Packer coaches when asked about a player is "He's a football player."

Well, I would hope so. I mean, that is what we're doing here, playing football and all.

I'd like to hear one of the street free agents, when asked about his position coach, just say "He's a football coach." (It's a total suck-up question anyway--I mean what's the guy gonna say, "My coach has no clue."?).

Favre Returns?

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, ESPN, and just about anyone with a keyboard and an Internet connection is reporting that Brett Favre has called the Packers and informed them that he intends to continue playing.

Well, we're not going to report it.

Here on the Packer Podcast, with our high journalistic standards (kind of a oxymoron, I know), we're not reporting anything until we know for sure. We're not reporting it until Brett Favre calls and speaks to a Packer Podcast representative himself.

That would be me. And I'm not about to show up at some golf tournament just to get a story.

Greenwich Packers ready for NFL Europe

When does NFL Europe start anyway? Can we still get in?

Greenwich Packers has a nice ring to it. Ron Wolf laid it on the line when he stated that the Packers are "playing with guys who are NFL Europe-caliber. It just doesn't work."

No kidding.

And I thought we were doing so well.

If it's not one thing, it's something entirely different

The Packers continued their knack for finding a way to turn a great effort into a sour defeat. You name it, we did it yesterday. The Packers combined the art of being flagged for penalties that stalled drives or kept the opposition's drives going along with a propensity to give up turnovers (that lead to 17 Steelers points).

Plus, we added the latest wrinkle...the turnover that turns into a turnover of our own, returned for a touchdown.

The Packers wasted another turnover (that's like the third TO already this year), when Steelers safety Troy Polamalu returned a Brett Favre fumble for a touchdown. The Packers, who were squandering an opportunity for a touchdown with two false start penalties, still had a certain field goal before the gaffe.

It's encouraging to see the Packers playing hard, though. I believe that's a testament to the players' character and our coaching effectiveness.
